FACEBOOK CHALLENGE WEEK FOUR

So this week's Facebook challenge was to get on stage at Beach Break...

... and I did! Here is a snap of me on stage with Queen's English at Beach Break (pretending to be a tiny hiphop diva) :)

BEACH BREAK DAY THREE

Hidee hi!
Beach Break Day Three was the best of all!! In the morning, I went off as usual to go stick my head under a tap and wake myself up and brush my teeth. While my head was all covered in silly foam, I got talking to two guys at the tap - Ash and Tom - and they invited me to join them and their friends to head along to the beach for the morning. Now, until then, i hadn't actually visited the beach associated with Beach Break - so jumped at the chance. Turns out Ash manages Tom's hip hop band called Queens English - and they were going to perform later that night. We wandered off to the beach - and it was totally deserted and incredibly beautiful.

We played football in the sand and went swimming and played volleyball with some nets and got sunburnt... and saw some massive jelly fish too! We then headed back to the campsite, brushed off the sand and had a late breakfast. What an amazing start to the day! Back in the arena, I watched some off the incredible acrobatics of the Par Cours chaps and then did an interview with Marc Roberts who is in charge of booking the bands for Beach Break. I then did an interview with beatboxer Beardyman - who performed later on on the mainstage.

Later that afternoon, some of my friends conducted a powder-paint-fight in the main area. The whole crowd were covered in showers of amazing colours - everyone dancing and laughing (and trying not to get paint in their mouths). Check out my arm post-paint-fight!

After that, me and my pal Will went off to watch Queen's English play - they were great! - and then headed off to various different clubs/tents/parties around the site - making the most of the last evening. We went to an amazing tiny club called Cowbunga - I could only just stand up in it and i'm 5 foot 2! It was done up like a living room and can only fit about 20 people - so much fun! We also went to a little tent called Jungle Is Tiny and danced on the grass. Good times.

After that - about 2am - I was ready for some sleep. I could feel myself getting a bit poorly sick, so went to bed...

Beach Break rules!

FESTIVAL FUN

There seem to be sooo many fun fare rides at festivals this year - more so than ever. I personally can't think of anything worse than paying to be thrown around in the sky when you've spent all day outside getting sunburnt and you're rushing off to go dance in a tent! But, each to their own... at least it makes for good photos!

BEACH BREAK DAY TWO

Hello all,
Day Two (Wednesday) was pretty grand! Woke at about 9am and had a wash before heading into the arena to attempt to find internet (failed) and check out some of the cool things around the arena.
The great thing about Beach Break is that there is so much to do around the site that aren't related to music. The music and 'big' acts don't really start until later in the evening - so during the daytime people can walk around and take poll dancing lessons, watch acrobatics, play ping pong, lie around in the sunshine - or anything like that. The weather has been amazing - so people seem to be happy to lie in the sunshine and chilax with their friends.

Once I had woken up properly and had some coffee and breakfast - I met up with my friends and went and interviewed the lovely Band Of Skulls. I had written about them previously when at Kerrang! Magazine - so it was good to meet them in person and they are very lovely indeed. Their live set was great too - and people were waving their arms about and enjoying the stodgy bass lines in the sunshine. Video interview to come!

Band Of Skulls Live

As the sun went down, I went back to my friends' campsite and had some food and natter - before heading out back into the arena for the evening and watching Calvin Harris on the main stage - then Toddla T, Fake Blood and 2manyDjs in the big blue tent. We were dancing hard and bouncing around almost in the front row - it was pretty chaotic but so much fun!

I then bailed earlier than my pals - and went back to my tent. They stayed out and partied till 5am dancing at a silent disco. But I have learnt that if I am going to survive 30 festivals in 30 weeks - I have to stay healthy and alive!

BEACH BREAK FUN!

BEACH BREAK DAY ONE

Good morning all!
Katie here sat in the press area of Beach Break in Wales. There has been pretty bad internet connection - so will update when I can and let everyone read/see all the full pics and videos on my return.

The festival is set by a beach (as the name suggests) in a massive field surrounded by forests and trees. It's completley gorgeous and once again I've been lucky with the weather as it's been super hot and sunny since I arrived. Right now there is barely a cloud in the sky! Lovely stuff.

Yesterday was a good day. I arrived around lunchtime and set about exploring the site. There are the usual fun stalls and places to eat as well as cool extra stuff like parcours performers, belly dancing classes, tea tents and more.

A few of my friends are running a stall painting moustaches and beards onto the faces of willing festival goers. So naturally I took part..

However, I did wipe it off to do a nice interview with Dan Le Sac and Scroobious Pip (video interview to follow!). They were lovely and really interested by this whole crazy job!

I then watched them perform on the main stage as well as Plan B and The Futureheads. Me and my pals then headed over to the big top tent in another field to see Sub Focus and more. The tent was so packed that people were just dancing on the grass outside. A lot of fun! We then headed to a smaller tent where some breakdancers were doing some demonstrations.. eventually ending in the whole crowd shaking their limbs to Madonna and Rhianna and more. We even managed to get a limbo line started with a bit of string. Classy.

I ended up very cold in my tent and have decided that this evening I will put on alllllllllll my clothes in an attempt to combat night freeze. I'm too boney - that's the trouble!

This morning I washed my hair under a cold tap (getting good at this!), baby wiped my face and had a coffee. What more does a festival goer need?!
I might visit the beach today as well as do a few interviews with bands/artists and festival goers.
Fun times.
Thanks for reading xx

OFF TO BEACH BREAK!

Howdy doody readers. 10am here in the UK and I'm already well on my way to festival number 4 - Beach Break Live!
I'm heading off on a train to Wales to go enjoy the super sights of the valleys and some grand live music too.
I've got my sleeping bag, straw hat and waterproof jacket - so prepared for all weather options.
I think I'm going to turn into some kind of packing expert pretty quickly - refining exactly what's needed for a perfect festival experience. I learnt from Isle Of Wight that it's good to carry some mini layers with you during the day, as well as suncream and loo roll. Then you're pretty much set!
Anyhoo.... Week 4 has begun! Yeeeee haaaa!!

REWIND - IOW DAY THREE

Ok chums.. so, am home now, safe and sound - and getting my rewwwwwind blog on - meaning that I now have the chance to update you on what went down on the final day of the festival - Day Three at IOW!
You read about my morning - that was lovely stuff - I then went and hung out in the VIP area (oooo!) to watch Friendly Fires who were brilliant. Their lead singer dances like a very happy maniac and was pretty inspiring. Later on I took a walk back towards my friends and stumbled across the 'big purple bus' where loads of mad freestyle events were happening over the weekend. I arrived just in time to see a guy beatboxing with another guy rapping, a third playing guitar and a lady singing over the top - it was lovely!
I then met up with my pals and had a great wander around the festival site right up onto the hill above the mainstage. We soaked up the atmosphere, at some pies (as you must do at festivals) and enjoyed the sunshine. We then checked out Pink! and the other artists on the mainstage - was pretty amazing. After that was the incredible headline performance from Sir Paul McCartney. A mixture of his own solo material, group stuff and Beatles tunes - it was an epic set, and very moving too.
Phew - so there ya go! That was Sunday!

LEAVING IOW

Oh my god. The worst part of a festival is undoubtedly leaving. Not just the 'emotional' strain of leaving behind a weekend of fun... But the slug of actually trying to quit the place where you are and get home!

It's 9.30am here at the IOW. I had packed up my tent by 8am (camped next to the bus queue) and have just got on a bus! The bus will then travel to the water's edge where there will be another queue for the ferry, which will then get to a train station for another queue! Mad times. However, by the time I get home (will insert actual home time in here readers! - UPDATE: 1pm) hopefully the happy memories of the weekend will not be over shadowed by the mission of returning to (brief normality).
Ya see.. the festival fun continues!
I'm off to Wales in the morning to go to Beach Break Live! Just enough time to have a shower (it's been since thursday!) and throw some stuff in the washing machine, air the tent (was wet with rain when I packed it up) and then catch some duvet time before going back out again in the morning :)
I'll see you on the flip side (?!)

MORNING SO FAR

Ahoy. I'm so full. Just ate an amazing hallumi sarnie and loads of water (important at festivals!).

Now I'm sat on the grass at the main stage watching The Courteeners. They're ok - but seem mildly dull compared to the surprise great band of the day so far: Delooze. They played in the strongbow tent and were amazing. Like spacey alt rock with mad epic female vocals and sexy beats. I'm definitely gonna go search out a cd when I'm home. Lovely stuff.

And this is my view now... What a lovely lovely day :)

IOW DAY TWO

Morning all!

Katie here from my tent on the Isle Of Wight listening to the sound of seagulls and bacon sizzling nearby. It's about 9am here (impressive sleeping in for a festival) and am feeling about 60% awake.
Yesterday was another good day here at IOW.

In the morning I went and saw my pal DJ in the Strongbow tent (done up like a bar/club for the weekend). Then we had some lunch and wandered over to the main stage area. My new pal Maz and I then decided to invest in some blankets (as the night had been so chilly and the day was pretty breezy). Of course, by the time we had bought them, the sun was scorching and we ended up using the blankets as rugs to lie on the floor and have a little snooze!

On the main stage we saw a folk lady called Melanie who had performed on the same stage 40 years before. Nice chilled songs in the sunshine.

After that we were treated to the brilliant The Hold Steady. I love them and their rocking happy goodness had me dancing on the grass.

After that was Paloma Faith and she was insanely good! Massive voice, massive heels and I loved her between-song banter (a proper London lass like me!). We were very impressed.
Then we watched Crowded House (good sunshine tunes) and the super cool Vampire Weekend.

At this point the World Cup England vs USA match started. It was being shown on various big screens round the arena and thousands and thousands of people made their way over in their red and white gear to support their team. I tried - but remebered that Biffy Clyro were on the main stage so legged it back through the crowds to watch them. I LOVE BIFFY CLYRO. They were incredible. And moving. And loud. And great. And I cried (just a little bit) when they played Folding Stars. Beautiful. It was odd to have those guys on in one place, the footie in another and The Saturdays on too. Mad lineup. I also looked pretty mad having put all my layers on at once!

At this point I'd like to give a shout out to a girl called Lucy. I was walking through the crowd and someone yelled "Katie p!" and this lovely lady ran up to me and told me she knows all about the Trident Perpetual Festival and she had been reading the blogs! How great is that?! We had a good long chat and I interviewed her too - all video footage to follow.

So, following some food I reunited with a load of pals and we danced to Blondie and The Strokes. Very fun indeed. Phew. Long day! But a goodun'.

Now to start a new day! The last at IOW - booooo.

Have yourselves a fun one

Xx
