Sleep? Pah!

Oh me oh my. What a lonnnnng night. By about 4am we were ready to sleep but the party does NOT stop at Monegros. We tried sleeping in deckchairs next to a DJ booth - but that was too cold. So we followed a crowd of experienced looking Spaniards to a wooden-roofed hut which contained the odd cushion. Hundreds gathered as the night went on... Huddling against each other for warmth. Surreal! (freezing!)

We made it!

Sunrise! We survived! We're alive! We're standing! We're warm (nope).... And we're ready for bed!

Aaron spectre on the red bull stage

Like hardcore metal breakdowns mixed with techno beats. "Donde esta mis metalleros?!" (or something). Either way - I screamed "yeyyy!"

Midnight snack

We aren't entirely sure what we are eating.. But it's shaped like an orange.. And filled with ice cream.. And was free. Nice

FYI on WC

Am currently waiting for an interview slot with 2manyDjs - and figured I would use the time constructively to write about... Toilets!

The festival toilet experience is one like no other. Most first time festival goers are appalled and horrified at the loo facilities in a field - but as time goes on - learning how to survive them becomes a rite of passage. As it were... ;)
I've seen everything from pay-as-you-go super posh loos - where £5 can get you access to a hairdryer, porcelain toilet and running water.... To the very extreme alternative, where balancing above the toilet using ski-like thigh muscles saves you from drowning in.. Umm.. Mess.

Here are my tips for using a portaloo:

- take your own loo roll. Don't presume there will be any. But if there is - take loads of it when you see it and fill your pockets for next time.

- don't blow your nose while in the loo. I has suffered the consequences of a big inhalation of toilet air post-sneeze. Rancid.

- don't look down. You already know what's gonna be in that pit of despair - so why scare yourself.

- flush. If its an option. Do as you would be done by and leave the loo in a state you would wish to find it.

- wipe the seat. Not that you wanna sit on it anyway - hover! - but its still a wise move if the papers available.

- hold the door open for the next person. Not only is it kind, but it also says "I'm not ashamed of you coming in here after me - cos that smell was not me."

Follow these simple rules... And you'll be ok

(no deep breaths)

Yey! Vincent! He's arranging it all!

Holy moly

Holy moly! We are at the desert festival and it feels like the hottest place on earth! There are clouds of dust rising through the air and shimmers of heat waves.
I'm just a small pale lady from London town... I think I'm gonna melt!!!!

Oh boooo :(

Truly a festival in a desert!

Barcelona!

Arrived in barcelona!

Hola compadres!
We have arrived in Barcelona for week 8 of the Trident Perpetual Festival experience!
We flew in at about 10am and spent a few hours travelling around the city before heading over to the town palace to queue up to get a bus north into the desert!
The queue for the buses is intense - super long indeed - and we have luckily managed to sneak onto a bus that will be leaving shortly for the next part of our adventure!
A few hours to go.. And we will arrive at the Monegros Desert Festival!

Here's the minor problem - I woke up at 6am on Friday - and last night just couldn't sleep at all. Perhaps I was worried about waking up on time for the flight... Either way, todays festival lasts 20 hours. straight. Taking us to 2pm tomorrow. That's over 2 days of no sleep :(

Ah well.. all part of the adventure! Tally ho!

Mayer Hawthorne in Croatia

Last Sunday I was lucky enough to get some time with the lovely Mr Mayer Hawthorne. Without a doubt my favourite set of the Garden Festival weekend - his music was the perfect soundtrack to the sunset stylings and chilled out happy vibes of the Croatian coastline. Click here for his music. Check out our little interview below.

Trident Perpetual Festival meets Mayer Hawthorne.

COULD YOU INTRODUCE YOURSELF FOR THE TAPE PLEASE?
Mayer Hawthorne: "How do you do. My name is Mayer Hawthorne from Detroit Michigan. Timeless gentleman and purveyor of soul music."

COULD YOU EXPLAIN WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN UP TO IN THE PAST FEW HOURS?
"We just got off stage at the Garden Festival in Croatia. It's my first time here and it was absolutely incredible. I will never forget it."

WHAT DO YOU THINK MADE IT SO MEMORABLE? THE SETTING? THE PEOPLE? THE TEMPERATURE?
“All of the above.... and more. It was a good time. Everybody was here to have a good time. People knew the words and were singing along and it was just an amazing sight.”

HOW DOES SOMEONE FROM MICHIGAN FIRST HERE ABOUT A FESTIVAL HAPPENING IN CROATIA?
“Well I heard about it through my booking agent but then on my way to London actually on the flight - I was flipping through the in-flight magazine and I happened to see an article on the Garden Festival in there. That was when I first starting getting really excited about it. I had never been to Croatia and I didn't know what it would be like, but they had some photos in there and I was like, 'I'm going to like this!'."

WHAT HAVE YOU NOW GOT COMING UP OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS?
“We are playing a dozen more festivals and we are playing Somerset House in London which I am really excited about. We are going all over the globe and then I am going to have a brief stint back in Los Angeles to record my next album.”

AND WHEN IS THAT DUE OUT?
“There is no date for it yet - but I am hoping it will be out around the first quarter of next year.”

ARE THERE ANY SPECIAL GUEST APPEARANCES DUE?
“I will say that - I will divulge - that I have a new track with Snoop Dogg in the can for my next album - and a lot more surprises in store as well.”

IS THERE ANY CHANCE THAT THE TWO OF YOU WILL MAKE IT ON STAGE TOGETHER IN EUROPE ANY TIME SOON?
“We have been trying for a long time, but we just keep missing each other. He was over here doing Wireless and we had just gotten off the plane and we were so exhausted that we just couldn't make it out there. But we will make it happen one day.”

ARE THERE ANY OTHER DREAM ARTISTS THAT YOU WOULD LOVE TO WORK WITH?
“I would love to work with Erykah Badu - I have been talking to her about working on some stuff. I would love to work with Pharrell Williams - I am a big Pharrell Williams fan. I would love to work with Justin Timberlake too - I think he is incredible. Who else? There is a singer/songwriter from Norway who I am obsessed with called Hanne Hukkelberg - look her up. It isn't exactly party music, but it is some of the most beautiful songwriting that I have ever heard. I am totally obsessed right now!”

Sad to say bye to this

The evening ends...

Go Spain! Not that I really knew what was going on. I was sat on the floor with my view obscured by a large pine tree. However, people seemed to be cheered by the result (aided perhaps by the bar nearby) and post-match everyone headed to the dance floor for a boogie to Hercules And Love Affair. Lots of clapping and bum wiggling (professional review there). I was most pleased to see a man watching the stage while stood knee-deep in a small swimming pool of water. Good lad. When in Rome!?
I decided to walk back to the hotel once they were done and get some kip before tomorrows flight home.
Should have brought a torch as negotiating the Croatian coastline using an iPhone to guide your way is pretty daft.
Headtorch next time!
See you in London amigos

World cup watching festival style

Boat party and more

Day two here at the Garden Festival and we decided to take a trip onto the infamous Croatian party boats. Four hours on a wooden ship with live DJs and a bar and a hundred or so people dancing in the sunshine. Pretty hilarious stuff. Kristian, David and i spent our time chatting to people, making sure strangers had enough sunscreen on (I'm annoyingly responsible) and snacking on rice crackers! The tunes were fun and the whole boat was bellowing along to Young Hearts Run Free at full volume. I was so sure someone was going to fall overboard but we managed to avert disaster and make it to shore safely. Phew ;)

I then had to RUN into the sea as I was far too hot. I then interviewed Hercules And Love Affair - the first time I have ever conducted an interview in a wet bikini (off camera mind.. Nothing to see here)...
And now... THE WORLD CUP FINAL! on big screens at the fest. No definite favourite here so I'll cheer for anyone ;)
