Lunchtime in Ibiza

It's 4.30 in Ibiza and time for lunch. I really don't know if I could ever get used to these weird eating hours out here. No one has dinner till 10pm at which point my british tummy is howling in pain and I feel quite faint. Here is my pal Tayo eating fish and drinking wine by the sea. I had a Spanish omelette and some lemon Fanta. Fascinating eh? ;)

Week 18 - Ibiza fun!

Check out the video from last night's fun in Ibiza.. including an amazing fire-juggling, box-spinning, flame-licking tattooed chap!

Woooo Pantera!

Ok, so I am a bit of a metaller at heart. Well, all the time really. Love my rock and riffage tunes.. so was very childishly pleased to see this sweet container in a super market - Pantera being one of my favourite bands - but also the spanish word for panther. Nice.

Here we go!

Rather sunburnt probably and merry... and ready for Amnesia!

Thursday 30 September 2010

Woo hoo!

Tonight we are off to legendary Ibiza club Amnesia. Myself - the two winners - and DJ Tayo - will be heading there in a few hours to enjoy the insane raving fun time skill of some of the best DJs on the island. For someone (me) who has grown up in a world of rock and metal clubs, these past few weeks in Ibiza have been real eye-openers. I have had a great time! And while my heart and soul will always lie in heavy metal and massive stonky guitar riffs, I certainly believe that dancing is enjoyable wherever you do it - and whatever you are dancing to! Good times!

This week's winners!

Are Paul and Matt - here they are hanging out in a club last night :)

Ello little woof!

Cute puppy I've made friends with on the beach

Ibiza styles

Yesterday I forgot to take my swimsuit to the beach. It was raining to be fair, and I wasn't sure it was going to get sunny. Anyways, travelled three bus rides away from 'home' and the sun came out and I wanted to go for a swim. This photo ladies and gents is of the cheapest bikini I could find. €13 and very ibiza don't you think? May even glow in UV club lights... Now there's an outfit idea for Amnesia tonight!

Celeb spot in Ibiza

I went to an Ibiza club last night with this week's Trident winners Matt and Paul. I nipped off to the ladies loo at one point and bumped into Miss Sarah Harding from Girls Aloud by the sinks (where she was adjusting her eyelashes). She was with a load of friends, so I didn't want to be too intrusive, but thought you guys would never believe me unless I got a quick snap. She was very gracious and friendly and very pretty indeed! :)

Attitude Is Everything

Hey all, so while I was having dinner this evening I started chatting to a lady called Suzanne. Turns out she works for an amazing company called Attitude Is Everything who improve deaf and disabled people's access to live music. She was talking to me about festivals - and how much she loves going to them - as well as the clubs in Ibiza, but that in her experience, some of these places have such bad disabled access that she cannot go to them. I found what she had to say so interesting, that I did a little interview with her about her job and the company so you could all learn about what she does. Have a watch below, and check out their Facebook page "Attitude Is Everything".

Spanish for beginners

I can speak Spanish. Kind of. I learnt it at school for GCSE, and continued it a bit afterwards, to the point where I can understand nearly everything - but can hardly say anything back. A rather useless combination really. However, signs like this make translation pretty obvious - so now you all know how to say "Beware of the dog!"

Rarrrr!

How do you like my Mexican wrestling mask? Not sure why these are for sale on the streets of Ibiza - but there ya go. I went to Mexico last year for the Day Of The Dea Festival and bought a mask like this for a friend for fun... However, a little too warm here in this Spanish climate to wear one around.. ;)

Tye dye tastic

I have always had a rather embarrassing soft-spot for tye dye. Me and my friend Rowena once spent a whole weekend when we were school kids trying to dye our own clothes in her back garden. It kind of made a comeback (sort of) last year for a brief moment so I am told - but certainly not to this kind of extent of colours and options. Yes, perhaps I gave in and bought a T-shirt. Not sure when I will ever wear it, but it's rather cheery ;)

Hippy Market

Every Wednesday, Es Cana - on the north west side of Ibiza - plays host to its famous Hippy Market. Hundreds flock to this little town for the shopping and atmosphere. As I suspected, it's pretty un-hippy-like - with plenty of stalls selling items you may find elsewhere in Ibiza (floral dressed, 'I Love Ibiza' shirts, bracelets etc), but there is certainly more of a selection and a really amazing range of colours, sounds and smells. From the dance-music being played in the central podium, to the incense and food scent in the air - it's a pretty nice bohemian change from the club-heavy St Antonio side of the island that people know more about. Once I was done in the market, I had a wander around Es Cana (which incidentally took three different buses to get to - what an adventure!) and ended up having a relax on the nice quiet beach there. Recommended.

Video of market below:

Ahhhh!

What a mad and scary warning sign! I have never seen anyone getting chased to their potential death by a giant digger! It's like a nightmare scene from Transformers. Or perhaps I just haven't had enough sleep...

Evening falls in F-land

I have spent the past hour or so simply sat on the edge of a nature reserve looking out at the view across the water (mildy distracted trying not to get ants in my pants). Over to my right is a totally naked man trying to rev-up his speed boat, which is interesting. Over to my left is a naked man going swimming. I feel I may not be well-informed enough about this area to be perched here. I have been trying not to look at them, and instead focussing on the little crabs in the water in front of me. I think when/if I return here, I will bring a sketch book and some suncream. And some blinkers to stop my gaze unnecessarily falling on old naked men. Eww.

View right now in Formentera

So ladies and gents.. in true 'Katie in Ibiza' style, I just randomly jumped on a boat and headed to a new destination - Formentera. It was recommended to me on a weird Things To Do In Ibiza website - which makes no sense, seeing as it is not in Ibiza - and is in fact a whole new place. Anyways.. it's very nice here, and calm and quiet (very un Ibiza) and pretty - and the sun appears to be coming out. I like it so much in fact, that if it's sunny later in the week - perhaps I will come back. Lots of nice boats here. And lizards.

Grey skies over Ibiza town

Good morning all. Katie here at the top of a castle over looking the port at ibiza Town. The town - Eivissa - has a new section and an old town, the latter of which I an perched upon. There are grey skies and a bit of rain over here today, but still a stunning view across the water.

Tasty giant pizza

Last night we went out for dinner in Mallorca to an amazing restaurant that serves totally giant pizzas - in paella dishes. This photo doesn't really explain how big they were (though look at the size of the plates and cutlery next to the dish for an idea). This picture is more here to demonstrate how daft I get when there is any opportunity to write something, with anything, anywhere. Here is 'Hello' in Spanish written with all the crusts and leftovers from our meals. The waiter liked it :)

Mallorca - all the photos!

Check out the photos from my spontaneous weekend in Mallorca - over HERE!

Mud mask adventures in Mallorca

Sunday in Mallorca was spent doing a lovely long hike along the cliffs (see posts below) with the destination being a mad little cove with natural mud pools. In less rough times (it was pretty blowy that day) you would cover your whole body in the stuff and swim to wash it off.. check out what we did instead..

Feeding fish with your feet..

A rather 'merry' Spanish man persuades me and my pal Kate to feed some fish using our feet.. totally gross to be honest! Haha.

Cliff-jumping in Mallorca - the video!

I have no idea why I told my friends that I would come along to a big old cliff in Mallorca - and jump off it. But I did. See the results and me freaking-out (rather embarrassingly) before attempting my jump.. plus some highlights of the far braver people who I was with!

Back in Ibiza!

Hola amigos! I'm back in Ibiza and waiting for a transfer bus to head back into Ibiza town. This week's new Trident winners arrive this evening - and we are going to go to some of this week's Closing Parties. My weekend in Mallorca was fun and great to see some amazing new places, incredible views and... Mud! I came back to Evisaa on this insanely massive boat!

Amazing views today.. Love this place

Mud face!

Video to come of our adventure into muddy face land... Gunky fun! :)

Good sign

Time for a hike!

Today me and my pals have decided to go for a hike around the coast of Mallorca near Deia. We are going to walk for a few hours along the cliffs and woodlands till we find a famed tiny pool that's full of mud that you can rub all over you. Not that you can't do that with normal mud, but you know ;) Here is the view at the start of our walk..

Hike view part two :)
