Ahhh.. See what you did there ;)

Festival fun :)

Rigo and Daniel at Beautiful Days.

Today I have mostly eaten..

For some reason I get really hungry at festivals. Maybe it's cos you spend all day in the fresh air walking. Maybe it's cause the food is so good. Maybe it's because it's all right there - to smell and taste so easily. Maybe its cos there isnt always much else to do...? Today I have mostly been eating: bacon sarnie, coffee, water, smoothie, burger, ice cream, donuts, water... And its only 6... Omm yomm yomm.

Where are you?

Cos we are still here!

When in Rome!

Festivals = Donuts.
There's something about their smell, their taste, their heat on a chilly evening - the festival donut is a must-eat (then regret straight away) experience. You can even play the "don't lick your lips till you're done" game. Yum!

Morris video

Morris dancing...

But not what you'd expect. This lot are all dressed in black and have their faces painted black and screech every now and then like flying harpies... "aiiiiiiiieeeeeee!!!"

Rolly poley

I just rolled down the hill. Haven't done that for many many years. Feel all giddy now.

Bimble Inn

Day two!

First up - it's not raining! Woo hoo! Myself and the winners have finally found each other (after mutual phone trouble) and we are now enjoying each others company over at the Bimble Inn - which is a tent on the far side of the festival specialising in weird live music, straw floors and a bar. We are about to watch a weird band (who I saw wandering around drunk at 11am) so lets see how they do...

This week's winners!

Found them! Here is Daniel and Rigo - happy Brazilian chaps!

Morning from Devon!

Things are just getting started here at Beautiful Days with a few messy looking faces crawling out of their tents. Here is the view of the main stage from up on the hillside.

Where are you?

Cos I'm here. Ta da!

Hall of mirrors

This place is like a funfair meets crèche meets rave meets concert.. And therefore totally appropriately has a hall of mirrors (albeit filled with shrieking kids getting scared by their own reflections). I must admit, I too look pretty gruesome with a weird stretched face.

Newton Faulkner at Beautiful Days

The nicest man on the planet? Quite possibly. Mr Newton Faulkner and I just had a grand old chat about being ginger and decided we look like brother and sister.

Mmmmm tasty

Festival food - as I've said before - has come on leaps and bounds since the days I first started festivalling (circa 1996) - and is also a whole heap better than people imagine (unless you're talking about Global Gathering).
Here at Beautiful Days there are about 50 different food stalls serving everything from Thai to Jamaican to vegan treats to ice cream and donuts and smoothies and pancakes. This particular mess marks the end of one of the best veggie burgers (with cheese and mushrooms) I've ever had. Yum.

Worst festival idea ever?

Here's an idea...

Perhaps I could pretend to be a lost child (i'm only short) and some parents might come claim me and look after me for the weekend. Fingers crossed.

Family fun

Beautiful Days is a family festival. The kids of the fest even have a huge area here with loads of activities to keep them happy (and quiet). There is face painting, wall climbing, rocket building, basket weaving and... van-splattering (not a well known activity to be fair). Here is one such splattered van.

Raaaaaaaaaar!

Hooray!

It's like finding an old friend!! This mash shack was at Beach Break festival and at Wakestock too. I LOVE it and the people who work there are really friendly. :)

That's not very nice!

Howdy doody. Katie here, out and about at Beautiful Days checking out all of the stalls (in the rain!). Plenty of mad stuff on offer here from frilly pants to juggling balls and musical instruments and fancy dress. I may have already invested in some weird floppy sandal things (for the warmer festivals coming up). This here sign is from a clothing shop that I'm hiding in. How rude!! ;)

Silly things in Bulgaria

I was thinking of daft things I could do to entertain people - video wise - so I did some juggling, some cartwheels, created a bit of stop-animation with pebbles.. and made a Bulgarian water-cam.. for no reason whatsoever. Enjoy! Katie x

Bulgarian head-camera!

One lady.. one roll of tape.. one silly idea. Me strapping a camera to my head at the Spirit Of Burgas.. :)

Sneaky Sneaky

So.. I had a pass.. and I got curious.. how close to celebs' lives could I get at the Spirit Of Burgas..

Sycronized swimming

Harder than it looks... but Claire and I certainly gave it a go :)

Grandmaster Flash at the Spirit Of Burgas

Chatting to DJ Shadow!

I love this chap's music. Check out Mr DJ Shadow - in a rather loud interview backstage at the Spirit Of Burgas!

UNKLE at the Sprit of Burgas

Hey hey - chat out this chat between myself and James Lavelle of UNKLE at the Spirit Of Burgas in Bulgaria!

Apollo 440 interview

I had the pleasure of seeing/meeting and hanging with the Apollo 440 lads for quite a bit of the Spirit Of Burgas. Perhaps English speaking people are drawn to each other in such intimidating Bulgarian language surroundings? Either way.. they rock, and the lovely Ewan (vocalist with the band) seemed happy to have a little chat at his hotel before jetting back home to foggy UK fun. Check it out.

Goodbye bulgaria

So we have had a few hours this morning to see a little of the city of Burgas/Bourgas before our flight. Include in the sights of the town were these amazing statues. Inspiring.

Sunday 15 August 2010

On stage right now...

Gorillaz Sound System! Sound HUGE here on the beach in Burgas - amazing. Have spent some of the day chatting to the lads - so here's a Perpetual Festival shout out to drummer Pauli! Go follow him over at @thepsm on Twitter.

Bulgarian water cam!

Watercam

One camera. One roll of tape. One inflatable ring meant for a baby. Let's do this.

Headcam

Yesterday I decided to get all DIY and create a new way to film things for the blog. I took my Indian head dress and took out the feathers, went to a pound shop and bought some tape and then attached my little camera to the headband and wore it round my head. Surprisingly painful actually. But wore it to run down the steps into the festival and skip about on the sand. Claire filmed me doing it on my phone so that you can see how daft it looked. Got some mad strange looks too. Classy.
