Greetings!

So as another evening in Bulgaria draws to a close (well, the party does actually carry on for many more hours but I've got to sleep or I'll fall apart), now is the time to briefly reflect on the trip so far. One word: great. Amazing winners, awesome weather, fab tunes, good interviews and an all round great experience. It amazes me that even into week 12, every festival is totally different. From the attitude of the security to the layout to the lineup to the location to the volume - no two have even been similar (even the two in the same place in Croatia!). What a wonderfully super job this is. Do not think I'm ever getting complacent about it - I thank my lucky stars a few squillion times a day that I am where i am. And you get to come too! Cheers lovely Trident bosses x

Well that looks silly

Still.. Might be a fun way to spend the evening ;)

Hey ladies!

Here is Ven, myself and Claire getting ready for dinner and our evening out! Hello!

Lunchtime in Bulgaria

Have just done an interview with Ewan from Apollo 440 at his hotel in Burgas - and have decided to hang out here for a little longer and enjoy the pool/food/scenery before the festival kicks off in a few hours. Nice.

I've been busy...

I've been busy building words out of stone using stop-animation. Results on Tuesday!

The prodigy get bright in Bulgaria

Amazing set from The Prodigy at Spirit of Burgas last night. 90 minutes of the banging biggest hits. Language barriers always easy to overcome with plenty of swearing and shouting. Hooray ;)

Apollo 440 on the main stage

Pretty impressive mad loud tunes from the 440 crew!

Bulgarian punk rock

I may have tried dancing and tripped. A festival with an entirely sandy floor is tougher than it looks to navigate!

Main stage

Gravity Co opening the main stage here at Spirit of Burgas

Apollo 440

Lovely chaps. Took part in the Perpetual Question! Cheers lads.

Yey Bulgaria!

These guys present a TV show for a program called 5400 - they just interviewed me and I chatted to them :)

Hello!

Salutations from Claire, Ven and Katie in Burgas. Here's a photo of us outside of the gate to the festival ready to head in for our mammoth party night! Hooray! Ps. Just met a girl with giant springs attached to her legs. Safe

What an amazing setting for a festival!

I'm going off to explore!

Spirit of Burgas festival interview

I just got interviewed for the Spirit Of Burgas website - how nice of them! I then stole the file from them - and their laptop - to give you a peak at the interview. VERY SWEATY. Sorry about that ;)

Awww

We are sending this piece of graffiti from Claire to her husband :)

Pound shop?! 50p shop!

We found a nice cheap shop next to our hotel - the Bulgarian equivalent of a pound shop (but exchange rate means it's about 50p!). Ven got some sun glasses and I'm thinking of 'investing' in some mildly inappropriate playing cards if it's an option. When in Rome!

Beach life

Hello from Bulgaria! It is so so so hot here so we have spent the morning sunning ourselves on the local beach before the festival opens. I'm probably burnt already - oops. The water here is so warm that it is actually not refreshing in the slightest! Myself, Claire and Venice (who generally gets called Ven) have been sat chatting for hours. What lovely inspiring ladies. Ven is a youth worker and spends here life helping and advising young troubled people - and has some incredible stories to tell. Claire works in a school in Exeter helping children with learning differences. They met years ago when Claire was 18 and have been friends ever since. Such lovely lovely people - hooray! We are planning on getting some lunch soon before getting changed, picking up our festival passes and heading out for some serious dancing. The Prodigy are playing later and I can't wait! :)

Hello from Bulgaria!

I made you a drawing from my place mat

Dinner time in Bulgaria

We have landed safely in Bulgaria and we are starving! Time for dinner at the Happy Bar And Grill :)

We're off to Bulgaria!

Week 12 of the Trident Perpetual Festival has me and two comp winners heading off to Bulgaria for the Spirit Of Burgas festival! We are just leaving Luton now and are ready to go! This week's winners are Claire and her friend Venice (pictured). They're really lovely and I'm sure we are going to have a totally brilliant time - hooray!

Trident Perpetual Question at Standon Calling

The Trident Perpetual Question - the best/silliest/most fun idea ever. Get a stranger to ask a question and get another to answer it and ask another, post that question to someone new and get them to set the next one.. At Standon Calling this process became 42 people long and included contributions from The Magic Numbers, Fool's Gold, Alice Russell, The Fabulous Penetrators and more! Check it out..

Klezma Villanova at Standon Calling

The first people I met at Standon Calling this year were the lovely Klezma Villanova. They were the first band on on Friday's line-up and played an exciting and inspiring fusion of gypsy punk and world music. Check out this chat with them (in a woodshed) below.

Festival wrist attire

May I advise all festival goers to wear a watch. Not only does it allow you to know what time your favourite bands are on - but it also allows you to strike up conversations with time-deprived strangers.. And saves your phone battery as you won't be checking that!

Massive thank you to One Stop Festival and Breo for this Roam watch they've given me for my festival adventures. Rubbery. Waterproof. Flexible. Perfect! Though I doubt I'll be able to keep it this clean for long ;)

Jeffrey Lewis at Standon Calling

Amazing musician, inspiring thinker - see what happened when Jeffrey Lewis and I sat down for a chat.. and he ended up interviewing me!

The Magic Numbers at Standon Calling

The Magic Numbers dish the dirt on who they would murder at Standon Calling... evil!

Efterklang answer your questions!

Before I headed to Standon Calling.. I asked people on the Trident Facebook page and my Twitter account to give me their random questions to put to a band at the event. I printed them off.. took them along.. and managed to persuade the rather adorable Efterklang to answer them!

Check out the results below..

Chatting to F**ked Up at Standon Calling

The loveliest loudest band with the rudest name... check out my interview with the friendly Damian from F**cked Up at Standon Calling 2010..

Alice Russell at Standon Calling

Standon Calling had an incredible variety of musical styles on offer - and one of the best performances of the weekend came from Alice Russell - a lovely lady with some serious pipes! I had a little chat with her backstage before her set... have a gander!

Standon Calling - the video report!

Check out some of the lovely sights and sounds from Week 11 of the Trident Perpetual Festival at the awesome Standon Calling!

Toilet rules - part two

Standon Calling used all of the 'waste' from the festival goers to create compost to then use for plantlife. What a great idea - and much better for the environment than chemical toxins. Well done festival!

Efterklang

Evening falls on standon calling

Burrito munched and am sat on the grass (between cowpats) watching Efterklang with new friends. Its been a super day here at Standon. I remember reading on the site before I went that Standon has some of the best fans - and its true. Theres a great vibe here with good people recycling and being friendly and enjoying sunshine and tunes. Lovely stuff.

Best in show

Dog show at a festival? Sure. About 40 dogs and... Two humans dressed as dogs. As ya do.

Alcatraz!!!

This is the club that stays open allllll night.. In the evenings it's full of party people and crazy times and bright lights and loud music... Right now it's totally empty - perfect place to do interviews :)

Standon calling day two

Morning! Tent update! Yesterday was a good day here at standon. After I woke I put on my fancy dress (see drawing below) and had a wander about the site. There were some amazing outfits on display. A huge amount of prisoners. A bucket load of CSI investigators. Loads of cool Cluedo characters. Some people in a plane. Some children dressed as old men and much much more! I took plenty of picture on my camera so will upload them all on my return to civilisation. (very hot in this tent right now). Musically it was a super day too. Saw an incredible swing band, some amazing jazz singing, some dirty dance beats... and The Magic Numbers! They were brilliant and everyone knew the words and danced and sang along. I managed to watch from behind the stage at it was an awesome spectacle. Happy days.
