ARRIVED IN MALLORCA

Woooo hoo! Week 2 is well under way! I arrived in Mallorca this morning at 9am (following a hard 3am wake-up for flight) and spent the morning hanging out with my friend Howard who moved here a few months ago from England.

He works as a graphic designer here and has a very cool boss who let us go and use his speed boat to blast around the sea for a few hours.

Following that, I had some grub and have just met up with this week's winners Adam and Tom, who are brothers. They've flown in from the East Midlands today. Adam is an accountant and his younger brother is an electrician. They have good taste in music - we've already discussed Beatles, The Kinks and Billy Talent - and they're looking forward to tomorrow night's gig at our hotel.

Tom has actually been to Mallorca before, so will hopefully remember some cool places to check out tonight in Magaloof.
Rumour has it that tv legend Pat Sharpe runs a bar out here, and we three have already decided this is a must-find destination.

Anyhoo... We're now off to the hotel to check in and get ready for a fun evening ahead. Will keep you all posted.

Here's a pic of me and the boat earlier and a snap of me discovering palma town.

PREPARING FOR WEEK TWO AT ... MALLORCA ROCKS!

Well well.. one festival down and 29 to go! This coming weekend I'll be jetting off (is it jetting when it's such a short flight?) to Mallorca for the Mallorca Rocks event.
Now, people may have heard of Ibiza Rocks - that's been going for a while - well the Mallorca version is like the sister-event, kicking off with a night of fun with The Kooks, Zane Lowe and Bombay Bicycle Club by the seaside in the sun!
By the looks of the website, it's going to be pretty mental!

Once again i'll be joined by two winners who are going to accompany me on the trip and take in the summer sights. I just chatted to them on the phone, and they seem pretty ready to get going!
Check back here for video, photos and bloggy updates all-day, every-day.
Lovely jubbly

BYE BYE IBIZA

Hola compadres! Katie here next to the pool at our hotel in Ibiza. In a few hours we're heading back to Manchester/London as our trip draws to a close.

Yesterday we had a good day on the party isle. The IMS was over so we decided to explore our surroundings and catch a bus across the island to San Antonio.

It's more of a wild/brits abroad kind of area and we saw plenty of rowdy hen parties in fancy dress on the beaches. Due to my bad sense of direction we headed away from the beach when we got off the bus but luckily found ourselves right on the road leading to the famed Cafe Mambo.

The cafe is known for it's stunning views across the ocean so we had some lunch there and dragged out our food for as long as we could so we could soak up the relaxing atmosphere. After a few hours of checking out shops ( and a cheeky ice cream) we caught the bus back to town and then to the hotel before having some dinner on the beach. We found a cool little cafe on our Talamanca beach with chairs right in the sand and had some pizza and pasta. See video below:

By then, to be honest with you, we were exhausted. The day spent in the sun had taken it's toll - and although the lads were chuffed with their tans, I was ( and always will be it seems) very white - and we decided to flop back at Playa Real.

Today - Sunday - has been all about packing and preparing for departure. I managed to find some cute little cheap espadrill (?sp?) sandals for next weeks adventure to Mallorca, and am now all packed and ready to go.

This whole trip has been great. The lovely winners Kyle and Aaron have been awesome to hang out with, as well as having their own time to hang out with just each other and get to know the sights ahead of their upcoming Ibiza holiday in august. We all made some fun new friends at the IMS and I certainly felt like i've learnt a lot - not only in the lectures - but the clubs and bars too.

Thank you to everyone, especially Trident, for an amazing time!

See you next week for..... Mallorca Rocks!

IBIZA DAY THREE - IMS GRAND FINALE FESTIVAL

Howdy doodys.. it's about 10am here in Ibiza on Saturday.. and I finally have the chance to update you properly on yesterday's goings-on at IMS!

In the morning we all went along to the IMS 'lectures' at the Gran Hotel - Kyle, Aaron myself and our new international buddies - and watched some people talking about various electronic music topics, all aimed to advance the scene. There was a chat from two guys about their PR company and how they aim to integrate great music into marketing campaigns, a very suave chap talked about his chain of music-related hotels, the people at Pioneer demonstrated their new DJ mixers and panelists debated important issues to do with labels and music rights. It might sound a bit techy and geeky to some - but it was all very interesting - and was topped off by a cool interview with Mark Ronson conducted by Mr DJ legend Pete Tong. Mark played a new track - Bang Bang Bang - from his upcoming new album and talked about the various different artists he has guesting on the release as well as his history in the DJ and producing scenes. The tune is great - and we had a chance to hear it again in an amazing setting later on as we all headed up onto the fort/castle - a heritige site here in Ibiza - for the IMS Grand Finale Festival.

As you saw from the video earlier this week - the festival as in the most incredible setting for any music event.. ever! Around 2000 people gathered up on the fort, with the breeze from the sea blowing across the crowd as we watched the sun set and the stage light up with lasers and colourful screens for the evening's partying.

First up was Skream - a pretty cool bunch of tunes, warming people up for the night. There was everyone from hardcore ravers to 5-year-old kids dancing on the gravel as the sun started to go down over the horizon. Next up was David E Sugar - a guy singing live with his band, kinda electro meets heavy bass indie - pretty cool and different. After that was Mr Pete Tong - a classic dance set with people reaching for the lights, hands aloft, bouncing in the dirt. Then Mr Ronson took to the decks - and it was amazing! He played everything from his own tunes, to Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson, Snoop Dogg, Amy Winehouse, Jay Z, Missy E, 70s disco, 80s pop, Britney Spears and so much more. Everyone was dancing like mad - throwing all kinds of crazy moves, wiggling their hips, grinning from ear to ear. After that Sasha was up - a more beat heavy techo set - and after a bit we decided to walk down the hill to head over to Pacha - the legendary Ibiza night spot. Check out the video here:

This club is the most insanely glamourous mad place - loads of levels, plush decor, white seating areas, massive sound system - and was packed to pop with thousands of island revellers getting ready for the official start of the summer season tonight.
It was very loud, very fun and.... very expensive. EEK! But good times.. and we headed back to our hotel very late/early.
Now I am feeling excited and good today about another day on the Island - it's lovely and sunny - and we're going to head over to San Antonio later to explore the surroundings.

Love this place. Love this festival. Happy Katie.
